Quetta– Unknown gunmen stormed an under-construction house in the Khuda-i-Abadan area, killing seven labourers and injuring one, according to police sources. All victims hailed from the Shujabad area of Multan, Punjab.
The attack occurred while the workers were sleeping inside the house they were building in Mohalla Abdul Rehman. The assailants reportedly opened fire indiscriminately, using automatic weapons. “Seven labourers were killed on the spot, and another was injured,” Inspector General Police Moazzam Jah Ansari confirmed, adding that the labourers worked and lived at the site.
Law enforcement agencies, including police, swiftly responded to the scene, transferring the victims to the district hospital. Hospital officials confirmed the reception of seven bodies and one injured worker. The victims, identified as Sajid, Shafiq, Fayyaz, Iftikhar, Salman, Khalid, and Allah Wasia, had all sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The surviving worker, who was not present at the time of the attack, escaped unharmed.
Senior police official, SSP Fazil Shah Bokhari, described the event as a “terrorist attack,” assuring that an investigation is underway. The motive behind the brutal assault remains unclear, but authorities are considering the incident a high-priority case in their counter-terrorism efforts.
The attack drew immediate condemnation from senior officials, including President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Prime Minister expressed his deep sorrow and sought an urgent report from Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism.
As the investigation progresses, the horrific assault adds to the grim tally of violence in Balochistan, a region long troubled by militancy and insurgency. The incident is likely to further fuel national debate over security challenges in remote areas and the ongoing battle against terrorism in Pakistan.
