Heavy rains and flash floods during the past two days have destroyed dozens of homes and agricultural land in different districts of Badakhshan.
Mawlavi Mohammad Akram Akbari, director of the Badakhshan Disaster Management Department, told the media that most of the damages occurred in eight villages across Teshkan and Tagab districts.
He said that 113 homes, hundreds of acres of farmland, bridges, schools, clinics, roads, and public facilities were badly affected by the current disaster.
He said that authorities have started a thorough assessment in the affected areas while relevant departments were busy with relief services. Roads are being opened and foods and non-food items were being distributed to people in need, he added.
According to local officials, during the floods in Badakhshan, five people have died while more than ten were injured.
Authorities say the flooding in the districts of Tishkan, Tagab, Warduj, Argu, Kohistan, Dariyam, Yavan, Yamgan, Yaftal Payan, and the central district of this province have left significant human casualties and financial losses.
