The Tomb of Nasir Khusraw, one of the historical sites in Yamgan District, Badakhshan, is facing the risk of collapse.
Local residents said that no attention has been paid so far by the authorities and relevant institutions for the restoration of this tomb.
Nasir Khusraw Balkhi was a prominent scholar, poet, and writer of the country, who is said to have been born in 1004 CE.
The tomb is located on rocky hills, the surroundings of which are at risk of collapse due to rainfall and other natural factors.
“Currently, Nasir Khusraw’s tomb is nothing more than ruins. We are the destroyers of Nasir Khusraw, and we Yamganis have not been able to protect this precious heritage of ours,” said Najibullah, a resident of Badakhshan.
All the pillars, beams, and entrance and interior sections of this tomb are beautifully carved and adorned with various colors and verses from the Holy Quran.
Local residents have urged the interim government officials to save this tomb from the risk of destruction.
Zabihullah Amiri, head of the information and culture department in Badakhshan, said: “We have discussed this matter with the institutions and the Ministry of Information and Culture, and God willing, the restoration of this historical tomb will begin this year.”
