A UK court has dismissed an appeal submitted by Pakistani ex-Army officer and YouTuber Adil Raja to waive a £10,000 fine. The court ruled that Raja must also pay an additional £3,000.
The fine was originally imposed following a complaint by a retired senior Pakistani military officer Brigadier Rashid Nasir. The British court had ordered Raja to pay £10,000 for defamation and security costs. Deputy High Court Judge Richard Spearman issued the latest ruling, denying Raja’s appeal and mandating the extra payment.
Raja’s appeal was filed on April 16, 2024, just a day before the original deadline for payment. The court found that Raja’s defamatory statements against [Brigadier] Nasir had been published on his X, Facebook, and YouTube accounts.
Nasir’s legal action was initiated on August 11, 2022, following a campaign against him by Raja that began on June 14, 2022.
