Afghan border authorities have undertaken a demarcation process along the country’s borders in the Wakhan area. This initiative is aimed at clearly defining the boundaries of Afghanistan, enhancing national security, and ensuring territorial integrity, the authorities said.
The Afghan Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs has said that a delegation visited the northernmost Wakhan region to evaluate and demarcate the borderline with neighboring countries.
A presser issued by the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs said that the border evaluation delegation was headed by Engineer Ghulam Sidiq Sabaon, director of border evaluation in the ministry, and included officials from other relevant departments and provincial administration.
The delegation visited to examine and evaluate the country’s border in three districts of Badakhshan in the Wakhan route.
The delegation evaluated 434.62 kilometers of border with Tajikistan, 290 kilometers of border with China, 102 kilometers of border with Kashmir, and 246.01 kilometers of Durand Line, the ministry said.
Terming the Durand Line as proposed and unacceptable, the ministry said that these evaluations were conducted in Badakhshan’s Wakhan, Zebak, and Kiran-wa-Minjan districts.
The visit, study, and evaluation of these areas are conducted by Afghanistan at a time when these bordering areas have not been formally visited in the past three decades.
The delegation visited the important areas of Badakhshan, including Wakhan and Pameerona. They conducted their studies and evaluation.
The Wakhan Corridor, a narrow strip of land in the northeastern part of Afghanistan, is a critical region due to its geographical location, bordering Tajikistan, China, and Pakistan.
