An Afghan soldier has claimed first place in Russia’s prestigious Elbrus mountain climbing competition.
According to a press release from the Afghan National Defense Ministry on Saturday, July 27, 50 competitors from countries including Afghanistan, Brazil, Armenia, India, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, China, Mongolia, Namibia, Oman, Ecuador, and Russia participated in the event, which aims to promote peace through the challenging ascent of Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak.
Muhammad Haroon Yasir, a soldier from the National Defense Ministry of Afghanistan’s Islamic Emirate, emerged victorious in the competition.
The event commenced on July 20 and concluded on July 25, with participants undertaking the arduous climb to the summit of Elbrus, standing at an elevation of 5,642 meters above sea level.
Upon reaching the peak, Yasir recited the Kalma Tayyaba, a testament to his faith.
In a gesture of goodwill following his victory, he extended the honor of his win to his Russian rival, emphasizing the camaraderie and peace that underscored the competition.
