The European Union (EU) has pledged €150 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in a critical effort to prevent famine.
The EU said that the funding will be directed towards supporting existing partners working within Afghanistan, as well as addressing the urgent needs of Afghan refugees returning from neighboring Pakistan and Iran.
A portion of the aid will be allocated to strengthening Afghanistan’s disaster preparedness capabilities.
The EU emphasized its commitment to reaching the most vulnerable populations within Afghanistan, focusing on those residing in hard-to-reach areas. The €150 million package will be used to provide essential assistance in various sectors.
The EU highlighted the dire situation facing Afghan children and youth, with eight million in need of educational support. This includes 1.4 million girls.
