Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif has appointed Ishaq Dar as the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan. Ishaq Dar holds the position of Foreign Minister in the cabinet.
“The Prime Minister has been pleased to designate Mr Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, as Deputy Prime Minister with immediate effect and until further orders,” read the cabinet division’s notification.
It was a surprising development in Pakistan as PM Shahbaz Sharif notified his deputy all of a sudden.
Dar is a close family member and trusted aide of the Sharif family.
Apart from being the foreign minister, Dar is currently the leader of the House in the Senate.
